How the plumbing side of a reno works

  1. Plan & free estimate. We go over your layout and fixtures, flag anything that affects the plumbing, and give you a clear price.
  2. Rough-in. After demolition and framing, we install the new drain, vent and water lines inside the walls and floor.
  3. Inspection. Where a permit is required, the rough-in is inspected before the walls are closed.
  4. Finish. Once tile and paint are done, we install the toilet, vanity, faucets and shower trim.
  5. Test & walkthrough. We check every fixture for leaks and proper drainage before we leave.

Tips before you start

  • Pick your fixtures early. Shower valves, freestanding tubs and wall-mounted vanities each need specific rough-in positions.
  • Plan access. Leave an access panel for shower valves and tub drains where you can.
  • Think about the basement. Fixtures below the sewer line may need a pump to drain.
  • Check permits. Moving or adding plumbing usually needs one.

FAQ

Bathroom Renovations: common questions

Do I need a plumber for a bathroom renovation?

You do any time you move or add a drain, vent or water line, such as relocating a toilet, adding a shower or converting a tub. In Ontario, adding or moving plumbing usually requires a permit and inspection, so it should be done by a professional.

Can you move a toilet or shower to a new spot?

Usually, yes. It depends on where the new drain can connect and what's under the floor. Joist direction matters on upper floors, and in basements the concrete slab has to be opened. We'll check this during your free estimate.

Can you add a bathroom in the basement?

Yes. If your basement has an existing rough-in, that's the easiest starting point. If the new fixtures sit below the sewer line, a sewage ejector pump may be needed to lift the wastewater out.

When should the plumber come in during a renovation?

Usually twice. The rough-in happens after demolition and framing, before insulation and drywall. The finish happens after tile and paint, when the fixtures are installed.

Do you give free estimates for renovation plumbing?

Yes. Every estimate is free with no commitment. Call (905) 536-3703 to book one.
