Burst pipe? What to do right now

  1. Shut off the main water valve. It's usually where the water line enters the house, often in the basement near the meter.
  2. Stay safe around electricity. Don't touch outlets or appliances in standing water. Turn off power to wet areas at the panel only if you can do it safely.
  3. Drain the lines. Open a cold tap on the lowest floor to let the remaining water out.
  4. Call us. We're available 24/7 at (905) 536-3703.

Simple ways to prevent repairs

  • Know where your main shut-off is, and make sure it turns.
  • Disconnect garden hoses and shut off outdoor taps before winter.
  • Insulate pipes that run along exterior walls or through unheated spaces.
  • Fix small drips early, before they turn into water damage.

FAQ

Service Plumbing & Repairs: common questions

What counts as a plumbing emergency?

A burst or leaking pipe, water coming through a ceiling, sewage backing up, a toilet that won't stop overflowing, or no water at all. If water is going somewhere it shouldn't, treat it as an emergency and call right away.

Where is my main water shut-off valve?

In most homes it's where the main water line comes into the house, usually in the basement on the front wall and often near the water meter. Find it now so you're not searching for it during an emergency.

Why does my toilet keep running?

It's usually a worn flapper or a fill valve that's out of adjustment or failing. Both are common, quick repairs. A running toilet can waste a lot of water, so it's worth fixing soon.

Do you service and replace water heaters?

Yes. We service, repair and replace tank water heaters, including gas and power-vent models. If your water heater is leaking, making noise or running out of hot water, call us for a free estimate.
